H.E. The President of Sri Lanka appointed Mr. C.L.J. Moonamalee as the commissioner to , inquire into the destruction of L 1011- 100 Tristar Aircraft hearing Sri Lanka Registration '- No.4 R-ULD schedule on Flight UL 101 from Colombo to Male at Colombo Airport, Katuanayake on 3rd May 1986. The commission was appointed on 18th May1986 under section 2 of the commissions of inquiry act (Cap.393)
The Commissioner was asked to Report on the circumstances that led to the destruction of the Aircraft, the extent of the loss of lives and injury to persons, the nature and extent of the damage to the Aircraft, the person or persons directly responsible, security measures at the Airport etc.
The Commissioner inquired into the matter and submitted his Report to H.E.The President.
