History
The National Youth Services Council was established under the Voluntary National Youth Service Act No 1 1 of 1967.
The Council functioned as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, The Council has the following objects ill its mandate to foster a spirit of National Consciousness a sense of discipline and to enlist tile participation of the youth without regard to class race or religion. Social welfare to provide employment opportunity for you, to promote mutual understanding between Sri Lanka and other countries by organizing the exchange of youth.
The working capital of the council is voted from the funds of the government and the council has the authority to accept grants or donations locally or outside with the approval of the government. From 7.9.1978 this council carne under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Employment. This Ministry's main object is to provide necessary guidance and directions to the National Youth Services Council.
