History
In 1948, the Ceylon Association for the Advancement of Science (CAAS) made a proposal to the government for the establishment of an Official Organisation for co-ordinating research at a national level. This proposal was implemented with the establishment of The National Science Council by Act, No.9 of 1968, under the Ministry of Scientific Research and Housing. This was repealed by the National Science Council Law No.36 of 1975 and later amended in 1979. The new Authority under the Natural Resources, Energy and Science Authority of Sri Lanka (NARESA) was constituted by Act No. 78 of 1981, This institute plays more dynamic role in co-ordinating the activities of the Government Departments and other Institutions in the Fields of Natural Resources, Development and Energy.
