History
Act No. of 1979 made provision for the establishment of the National Development Bank of Sri Lanka with effect from 24th January, 1979, but the functions of the Bank began only in October 1979. The main objectives of the Bank were to finance investment, by way of loan and equity, in the capital 0f productive enterprises covering mainly the industrial and agricultural sectors in Sri Lanka, owned either by the Government or by the private sector as joint ventures between them. In addition, the Bank undertook on a selective basis the promotion of Investment Projects based on studies done by them and outsiders. Herein the Bank extends its assistance especially to the public sector institutions for the development of projects suitable for the financing terms of the Bank.
