The National Book Development Council of Sri Lanka was formed under the Ministry of Education by a decision made in May 1972, by transferring tile assets and tile personnel or the defunct National Book Trust.
The objects of the council were the development of the reading habit, promotion of writing and publication of Books and the coordinating of Book Development with the National Book Development Plan.
