Administrative history
The Ministry of Mahaveli Development was established in 1978, for the execution of Development Schemes connected with the Mahaveli Scheme. The Development of the Mahaveli River Basin, its tributaries and the trans basins was the main objective to be achieved by setting up of this Ministry. Therein the general administration, guidance and policy direction were being provided to the Mahaveli Development Board and the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau.
