Administrative history

The Ministry of Home Affairs was reconstituted in 1980. It was responsible for the District Administration and the Administration of the Registrar General’s Department. The arears such as Police, Prisons, Excise, Rural Development, Kachcheri Administration were absorbed into other Ministries, such as Local Government, Public Administration, and Defence.
A Training and Development Unit of the Public Administration was established in early 1981. Action oriented training programme was initiated in 1983 in collaboration with the UNISEF.
The Ministry of Home Affairs was responsible for the activities:- VIZ, Coordination of activities and execution of Development Programmers for other Ministries, and Department at District Level. Registration of births, deaths, marriages, deeds, and preservation of such records, Administration of Enactments regarding Mosques, and Muslim Charitable Trusts. Another function of this Ministry is to direct, control and co-ordinate the Programmers of work of the Government Agencies (Kachcheries), Department. of Registrar General and Department, of mosques, and Muslim Charitable Trusts.
