Archival history

The map collection in the National Archives commenced with the maps handed over by the Dutch to the British under clause 04 of the Dutch capitulation in 1796. The archives was with the Colonial Secretary under the British Government and all the maps which were deposited at the Colonial Secretary Office were handed over to the Government Archivist in 1948 . Some maps have been purchased from private owners which enhanced this collection.
