History

The Government Analyst Establishment was formed into a separate department in July 1913.
This Department performs Explosives Act, Food and Drugs Act, Poison Opium, Dangerous Drugs Act, Offensive Weapon Act, Petroleum Ordinance and Weapons Ordinance.
Work of the department covers the fields of toxicology, explosives, the examination on foods drugs, water, Liquors, textile and other miscellaneous articles and the examination of questioned documents.
Department provides scientific laboratory investigation and advisory services to the Govt. Departments and other public, institutions. Regular lectures are given to medical officers, public health inspection and police officers. Major volume of work is done for the Police. Judiciary. Excise, Customs, Medical Government Service and Local Authorities. Certain care, services are rendered with the permission of the Ministry of Justice to private sector. Department also train officers of other departments in specialized analytical techniques. Department functioned under the Ministry of Home Affairs from 1931 to 1965 after 1965 under the Ministry of Justice.
