History

Under the fauna & Flora ordinance No.2 of 1937 the administration of wild life carried out by the department of forest until 1950. When the wild life department was established, experienced officers were transferred from the forest department to the wild life department. New game Rangers were recruited in August 1950. The function of the department is the protection or Fauna and Flora and to implement the government policy and include in particular, the central and administration of the national reserves and sanctuaries, the control of killing and capture of wild animals under licenses and permits, the prevention and detection of offenses, the promotion and encouragement of public interest in Fauna and Flora protection, the regulation of trading in lieuspecimcn and in the flesh, skin, tusks, harm-plumage and eggs of animals and the control of destruction of dangerous animals.
