History
The Department of Rubber Control was established in May 1934, under the Rubber Control Ordinance No.6 of 1934.1t sought to implement or the International Rubber Regulation Agreement signed in London on May 7, 1934. This agreement was further extended upto December 1943. The Ordinance No.38 of 1938 eventually terminated on April 30, 1944. The issue of rubber coupons under Ordinance No.38 of 1938 was suspended due to expansion of the war to the East and subsequently the Ordinance No.38 of 1938 was amended by Ordinance No.63 of 1943, repealing interalia, the sections relating to the assessment of rubber lands and the issue of coupons.
Present functions of the department are issue of permits for new-planting and replanting of rubber, maintenance of registers of rubber lands, allocation of rubber dealer's stocks, and completion of statistics on production, local consumption, exports and imports of rubber and total acreage under rubber plantation.
