History

The Department of Minor Export Crops was established in 1972. The main functions of the Department were promotion and development of cultivation and processing of Minor Export Crops, (Crops dealt with were Cocoa, Cinnamon, Coffee, Cardamoms, Pepper, Cloves, Nutmeg, Citronella, Papaw and Oil Palm) and promotion of cultivation practices, new crops with export potential and implementation of policy resulting from project studies on agricultural diversification on economic Tea and Rubber Lands.
For the implementation of the above plans the Department has granted financial aid, free planting materials and free issues of' agro- chemicals.
