History
The Department of Imports and Exports were established to ensure the implementation of the Imports and Exports (control) Act No. 19 of 1969.
The objectives of this Act were: -
(a) To prohibit or regulate the importation of exportation of goods from or to countries specified in the Regulations, by any person other than the Government of Ceylon, corporate or Unincorporate Bodies or persons, as may be specified in the Regulations.
Act No. 57 of 1971 repealed the Regulations made under Sections 4 (3) 4 (13) and 20 of Act No. 19 of 1969.
Various Regulations made under the Imports and Exports (control) Act No. 19 of 1969 were published in the then Government Gazettes from 1969 onwards.
