Administrative history
The Dutch Reformed Church in Ceylon was founded in 1642. The Island was divided into Three Ecclesiastical Districts called Consistories. These Consistories were Colombo, Jaffna and Galle. The Dutch Reformed Church Council of each Consistory was formed by the ‘Predikants’ with two or three elders and six Deacons. The members of the Church Council were chosen by vote. The Election being subject to the approval of the Government. It sent progress reports to Holland annually on the state of the Church in the Island.
