History

The Coconut Research Institute was established in 1930. This institute was converted into a Board in 1935 enabling it to engage in marketing and export of Coconut Products, The Coconut Development Act No. 46 of 1971 made provisions to establish the Coconut Development Authority. Thereby became the apex body responsible for planning. coordination and progress and control of the Executive Boards namely Coconut Research Board, Coconut Cultivation Board, Coconut Processing Board, Coconut Marketing Board.
The main function of the Coconut Cultivation Board is the administration of the Coconut Rehabilitation Subsidy Scheme, The scheme consists of improving the yields of Coconut Lands by Suppling Fertilizer at subsidised rates. Subsidising the supply of selected high-grade coconut seedlings for filling vacancies, replanting low yielding palms, flew planting and replanting of old coconut trees.
