The War Effort Picture Committee of Ceylon was constituted in 1942, 0n the advice of the Artists Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Information, London. The aim was to take photographs of all activities connected with the Colony's War Effort. Prices were offered for the best Pictures and they were sent to London. The Board received Two Hundred and Forty (240) Pictures. Out of these photographs Sixty-six were accepted and Nineteen were awarded prizes. Fourteen Pictures were recommended to he sent to London. The Exhibition was held at the University of Ceylon , Colombo in July, 1943.
