History

The Board of Revenue and Commerce was established in 1801, on the suggestion of Governor North, to control revenue and commerce of the island. The posts of the Commercial Resident and the collectors were suppressed and those duties were handed over to the board. Once again in 1803, this board was re-placed by a new Board of Revenue and Commerce. It was discontinued in July 1805 on Governor Maitland’s recommendation and a Commissioner of Revenue was appointed in 1806.
